About Cork
More than a surface. Cork is the bark of the cork oak tree, harvested gently every nine years without cutting the tree down. Each plank carries the warmth, resilience, and quiet of a material that has been growing for decades.
Cork softens sound, holds warmth, and feels alive beneath your feet. It brings calm to a room in a way that synthetic materials simply cannot. No chemical treatments. No off-gassing. Just a surface that is genuinely good to live on.
Completely. The cork oak lives for over 200 years. Every harvest is done entirely by hand. The bark regenerates every nine years. The tree actively sequesters carbon throughout its life. This is flooring that gives more than it takes.
Every Natrul floor is manufactured by Granorte, one of Europe's most respected cork producers with over 50 years of expertise. From bark to board, each plank is precision-engineered for performance, longevity, and natural beauty.
Not at all. Cork has been used in architecture and interiors for over a century. It is a legacy material, reimagined for contemporary living.
Installation
A modern click system. No glue. No mess. Floating floors rest above your subfloor with an integrated cork underlay. A confident DIYer can complete an average room in a single day.
Almost anywhere. Bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, offices, even basements with floating systems. For bathrooms, we recommend sealed glue-down tiles rather than floating floors.
Yes. Cork works beautifully with radiant heating systems. It retains warmth naturally, enhancing heat distribution while staying comfortable underfoot. Follow the standard preparation guidelines and the comfort will last.
No. Our floating floors include built-in cork underlay with Microban® antimicrobial protection. Add a PE vapour barrier on concrete subfloors and you are ready to lay.
Yes, using floating floors with a PE moisture barrier. Glue-down tiles are not recommended for below-ground spaces due to the risk of rising damp.
WEARTOP® UV lacquer offers durable, low-maintenance protection and suits most households. Water-based finishes feel more natural and open-pored. Choose the feel that fits how you live.
Durability
Cork absorbs pressure and gently returns to form. Independent testing shows it retains up to 90% of its original thickness after years of compression. Resilient, forgiving, and naturally tough.
Yes. Cork is quieter under paws and softer under claws than hard flooring. Keep nails trimmed and the floor will take care of itself. It is one of the most pet-considerate surfaces available.
Cork is dense and stable. Use felt pads under furniture legs and your floor will remain unmarked. Stiletto heels can leave impressions on any natural floor, so rugs at entry points help.
Cork evolves naturally over time. It may lighten slightly with UV exposure. Rotate rugs occasionally and let it age evenly. The change is gradual, and often beautiful.
A lifetime with proper care. All Natrul floors carry a 15-year residential wear guarantee backed by Granorte, with an expected lifespan of 25–30 years.
Yes. Cork naturally resists ignition and does not release toxic gases when exposed to heat. Suberin, the waxy compound in cork cells, acts as a natural fire retardant without any added chemicals.
Comfort
Not waterproof, but highly water-resistant. Suberin in the cork cells repels moisture at a structural level. Ideal for kitchens and resilient to everyday spills. For bathrooms, use glue-down tiles with sealed edges.
Always. Even laid over concrete. Cork insulates naturally, warming to body temperature rather than drawing heat from it. No cold feet, even on winter mornings.
Whisper-quiet. Cork absorbs impact sound by up to 19dB, softening footsteps and silencing echoes. Especially valued in hallways, open-plan spaces, home offices, and bedrooms.
Yes for kitchens. Cork is ideal there. For bathrooms, use glue-down tiles with edge sealing. Floating floors are not suitable for wet zones where water can get beneath the boards.
Very. The air-filled cells in cork absorb impact naturally, making it safer and softer for falls than any hard flooring. No VOCs. No synthetic binders. No off-gassing. A surface that is genuinely good for the people living on it.
Care & Warranty
Gently. Vacuum regularly. Damp mop when needed without soaking the surface. Skip harsh chemical cleaners. Let cork breathe and it will look after you in return.
Every few years, depending on traffic. A single topcoat restores the surface. High-traffic areas like hallways may need more frequent attention. The WEARTOP® finish on our floating floors requires no annual sealing.
Yes. Solid cork can be lightly sanded and resealed. Veneered options can be cleaned, lightly sanded, and recoated. Unlike laminate, cork gives you a second life.
All Granorte floors include up to 15 years of residential wear protection and a lifetime structural warranty. Built to last. Backed for life.
Felt pads under all furniture legs. A rug at entry points to catch grit before it reaches the floor. Avoid dragging furniture. Let natural light in but rotate rugs occasionally to age the floor evenly.
